their lives and escape poverty by providing them with access to small loans,

the hardest problems through microfinance and technology. Through two of the most effective tools known
– small loans and the mobile phone – the Foundation works to make a real
difference in the lives of those who have been left behind: poor people,

Grameen Foundation Technology Center,
based in Seattle, was founded in 2001.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Technology Center focuses on
using readily-available tools like the mobile phone and software platforms in
innovative ways to help the poor.
The Foundation operates in Sub-Saharan
Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vice President, External
Affairs reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is part of the Executive
Leadership Team, working closely with senior staff in the Grameen Foundation. He/She will have primary responsibility
for fundraising, development and marketing.
More specifically, responsibilities will include the following
dimensions:
Fundraising and Development Dimension:
·
Develops and leads the organization-wide
fundraising and external affairs strategy, including development, planning and
execution.
·
Assesses the current funding source mix and
makes changes when needed; leads and manages initiatives necessary to support
the short, medium and long-term funding goals of the Foundation.
·
Develops approach and then executes on strategy
for sustaining and increasing funding by
identifying, educating, involving and cultivating existing/prospective
donors.
·
Initiates, advances and oversees special
fundraising projects and events, ensuring that they are consistent with the Foundation’s
values and internal capacity.
·
Develops relationships with prospective
individual, corporate and foundation donors that lead to direct, staff-led
solicitations.
Management
Dimension:
·
Directs overall department of nine, with four
direct reports.
·
Demonstrates a strong, visible and continued
commitment to the attraction, development and retention of talent within the External
Affairs department.
·
Inspires team through effective communication of
organizational mission and achievements.
·
Invests in professional development of employees
through personal mentorship and by facilitating access to appropriate
professional development opportunities.
·
Responsible for deciding, socializing and
communicating organizational-wide strategic and operational decisions affecting
the team.
·
Ensures that Development team is aligned and
working effectively with other teams across Grameen Foundation.
·
Demonstrates the organizational values and high
ethical standards by walking the talk to reinforce integrity and build trust among
employees.
Financial Planning and Management:
·
Works closely with the Finance and Program
leadership to monitor the fundraising pipeline and make decisions as required.
·
Develops annual budget with participation of
Development staff members and in conjunction with the Finance and Administration
team.
·
Approves and monitors Development staff expenses
and budgets.
·
Ensures that adequate systems and processes are
in place to track, monitor and report on fundraising goals and activities.
Board Relations and Advisory Responsibilities:
·
Works closely with the Development Committee and
Board to develop fundraising strategies, monitor targets and solicit important
donors.
·
Helps in the recruitment of high level Board
Development Committee volunteers, who become
engaged and inspire them in the fundraising process.
·
Interacts with the entire Board to promote their
involvement in fundraising activities.
·
Works with the Governance Committee to
prioritize, cultivate and recruit new Board members.
EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate
will have at least 15 years of senior-level fundraising and management
experience, with particular strengths in major and planned giving. We are seeking an individual with experience
in the leadership and management of a complex, multi-million dollar development
operation, including building the infrastructure of a development program,
formulating and executing a successful
fundraising plan, preparing and managing a budget and leading campaigns,
etc. More specifically, this experience
should include:

Five years of experience as a senior member of
the top management team of a mid to large-sized NGO or nonprofit.
·
Experience and demonstrated success at
developing and implementing strategic fundraising plans and closing a
substantial number of gifts and grants from various levels and types of donors
for a nonprofit organization.
·
Direct experience in establishing and
maintaining effective relationships with Board members.
·
Successful track record in securing and
maintaining diverse funding sources including corporations, foundations,
government entities and individual donors.
·
Experience in managing all full cycle of the
annual giving, direct mail and online solicitation programs.
·
Proven leader of high-performing fundraising and
marketing teams.
·
A proven track record of cultivating,
soliciting and stewarding six and seven-figure leadership gifts and
grants.
·
Exposure to and demonstrated understanding of
global environment and international fundraising trends would be beneficial.
·
Direct experience with organizations actively
engaged in poverty reduction and/or international development is preferable.

EDUCATION:
A bachelor’s degree or
equivalent is required.
